IN THE WAKE OF BOTH THE ISRAELI AND AMERICAN ELECTIONS, JINSA URGES IMMEDIATE ACTION TO RE-STRENGTHEN THE U.S.-ISRAEL RELATIONSHIP
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Contact: James Colbert (202-833-0020)
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 8, 2001 - The Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) congratulates Israeli Prime Minister-Elect Ariel Sharon on his election victory. JINSA calls on the world to take notice of the fact that in the entire Middle East, Israel is the only place where democratic elections are held and citizens live in an environment characterized by free speech and individual liberty. As such, Israel has earned, through close security and diplomatic cooperation, its status as America's only major non-NATO ally.
JINSA commends President Bush for reaching out to Prime Minister-Elect Sharon to begin re-strengthening the foundation of the U.S.-Israel relationship. In a meeting with leaders of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs just prior to the elections, Prime Minister-Elect Sharon said that he would pursue peace with Israel's enemies but not at the expense of security for Israel's citizens. America, as well, must tend to critical foreign policy issues neglected by the past administration.
President Bush should not be swayed by voices urging the continuation of the failed Oslo process and the failed Oslo team. He should not be lured into continuing a "peace process" that has degenerated into successive giveaways of hard Israeli assets in return for broken promises from the Palestinian Authority, a corrupt, violent and anti-American regime.
