JINSA Condemns Pillorying of UN Ambassador Nominee John Bolton

(Washington, DC) - “The challenges to John Bolton’s nomination to be our voice in the U.N. stem from ideological differences between ‘soft line’ and ‘hard line’ State Department bureaucrats. It is as simple as that,” said Tom Neumann, Executive Director of JINSA.

At a time when the UN has been rocked by scandals ranging from the odious Saddam Hussein Oil-for-Food Scam to the loathsome participation of UN workers in mass rape in the Congo, John Bolton is the right person for this critical job, Neumann said “It must be understood that when you send someone into the lion’s den that person should be a lion tamer. John Bolton is no novice when it comes to diplomacy. He understands that sometimes diplomacy requires toughness. He knows the distinction.”

“The debate over whether John Bolton is the right person to be America’s ambassador to the United Nations has not been over a matter of character but one of character assassination,” Neumann noted. In calling for Bolton’s approval by the Senate, he said, “It is time we moved on from partisanship over this nominee and away from appeasement at the UN. American influence and credibility will erode the longer our seat at the UN remains unfilled.”
