Press Release in Reaction to Sept. 4 Bombing in Jerusalem

Reaction to Today's Bombing in Jerusalem

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: James Colbert (202) 833-0020

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 4, 1997- In the midst of shattered lives and shattered bodies lie the shattered remnants of any delusion one might have had that there is a genuine and real peace in the offing.

The debate is over. This vacuous policy in pursuit of a fraudulent peace is no longer viable. One can no longer, if one ever could, continue a process of negotiations with an individual who has not only failed to do his best to end terrorism but has in fact embraced it, and at a minimum fueled it through rhetoric.

At some time there may be a lasting peace in the Middle East, and we can hope for a peaceful future, but this is neither the process nor the partner.
