Joel Gemunder

Joel F. Gemunder served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Omnicare, Inc. and a member of its Board of Directors until his retirement in 2010. He had served as President since 1981, the year the company went public, and was named Chief Executive Officer in 2001. Omnicare, Inc., a Fortune 500 company based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and recently acquired by CVS Health Corporation, is the nation’s largest provider of pharmaceutical care for the elderly. Omnicare provides professional pharmacy, related consulting and data management services for skilled nursing, assisted living and other institutional healthcare provides as well as for hospice patients in homecare and other settings across the United States and in Canada. Omnicare also provides key commercialization services for the bio-pharmaceutical industry. In furthering the growth and development of Omnicare, more than 200 acquisitions in the health care industry were successfully completed and integrated over the nearly three decades of Mr. Gemunder’s leadership.

Prior to its initial public offering, Mr. Gemunder served as Chief Executive Officer of the Omnicare partnership, a consortium of health care companies owned by W. R. Grace and Chemed Corporation. He also served as Executive Vice President of Chemed. Mr. Gemunder began his affiliation with W. R. Grace in 1962, and in 1968 was promoted to Vice President of Development of the Company’s Specialty Products Group. When those operations were spun off in 1971 as Chemed Corporation, Mr. Gemunder was named Vice President. In 1977, he was promoted to Group Executive of Chemed’s Health Care Group, and later named Executive Vice President of Chemed.

Mr. Gemunder, born in New York, New York, graduated Phi Beta Kappa with an A.B. Degree from City College of New York and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Chemed Corporation (NYSE:CHE) and Ultratech, Inc. (NASDAQ:UTEK). He serves on the Advisory Council of the Graduate School of Business (The Booth School) at the University of Chicago where he has established the Joel F. Gemunder Chair for Strategy and Finance. He is a Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of JINSA (Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs) and is Trustee of its Gemunder Center for Defense and Strategy. He has also served as the President of the Long Term Care Pharmacy Alliance.

Today, Mr. Gemunder is a private investor primarily focused on health care investments. He is a Special Limited Partner in and Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of Healthedge Investment Partners, LLC, and a director of Medical Neurogenetics, LLC, a provider of molecular and metabolic genetic testing for neurological and mitochondrial disorders. He is also Special Limited Partner and Advisor in Texo Ventures, LLC, an early-stage venture capital fund specializing in health care. He is also the Trustee of The Gemunder Family Foundation which was established to carry on philanthropic activities in research and education.

Mr. Gemunder resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, Amelia Island, Florida, and Sun Valley, Idaho.
