The Iraq Survey Group (ISG) recently discovered a clandestine Iraqi chemical and biological weapons research program that operated right up until the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom in April 2003. Briefing Congress about the discovery, ISG leader Dr. David Kay also discussed the calculated destruction of hundreds of computers and thousands of linear feet of paper documention related to Saddam's WMD programs that contiunued even after the Iraqi military had capitulated.(read)

Poor maintenance, inadequate security at former Soviet nuclear sites has led to an increase in nuclear smuggling cases across Europe and Asia. In 2000 alone, the Russian Customs Agency documented more than 500 attempts to smuggle radioactive materials across Russian national frontiers. According to an internal CIA Intelligence Directorate report released in May 2003, al-Qaeda may already have the capabilities to launch biological, chemical, and even nuclear weapons.(read)

A ship carrying weapons for Palestinian terrorists was intercepted by the Israel Defense Force's naval branch some 40 miles off the northern Israeli coastline on Thursday, May 22, 2003. In a daring operation in which no shots were fired, Israeli naval commandos captured the Abu Hassan, an Egyptian-owned fishing boat, along with the eight people aboard, including at least one Hizbullah operative. Concealed on the vessel were materials and electronic devices used in to fabricate the explosive vests favored by suicide bombers.(read)

The workhorse of the air campaign against the regime of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been the A-10 Thunderbolt II an ungainly, brutish jet that seems far removed from the glamorous image of the Air Force. Better known as the “Warthog,” the A-10, universally loved by ground troops and its pilots, has faced uphill battles within the Air Force since it was first conceived in the late 1960s. On January 16, 2003, Ralph Morten, an officer with the LAPD for 28 years and a 10-year veteran of the bomb squad, briefed JINSA leadership and representatives of the U.S. Government on the domestic threat posed by suicide bombers and the lessons he has learned firsthand from the experience of the Israeli police. Det. Morten leads an ongoing program aimed at informing U.S. law enforcment personnel about the growing threat and develop methods by which to combat terrorism domestically.(read)
