On February 3 & 15 in Houston and Los Angeles, Col. Bentzi Gruber, a reserve officer in the IDF lectured to JINSA audiences on “Ethics in the Field.”
Combining classified IDF footage and well-organized statistics with personal narration, Col. Gruber, a veteran with more than 20 years in the reserves, is currently deputy commander of an IDF armored division.
Seeking to dispel the fiction and presents the facts that are missing when the media covers the Middle East situation, Col. Gruber convincingly rebutted the lethal combination of ignorance, misconceptions, and outright lies spread by partial media outlets that choose to vilify Israel.
Col. Gruber explored the dilemmas constantly facing IDF commanders in locating terrorists within a civilian population all the while upholding one of the most rigorous military Codes of Ethics in the world.
During his talk, Col. Gruber showed videos, some declassified exclusively for his presentation, depicting soldiers exposing smuggling tunnels, diversions used by terrorists as cover for suicide bombers and kidnapping soldiers, the pursuit and arrest of a would-be suicide bomber in the Nablus area (taken by an unmanned aerial vehicle), andterrorists using children as human shields and using ambulances for transportation. Additional video from Operation Cast Lead, as well as personal accounts from the battlefield, provided insight into the decision-making process behind Israel’s military policy.
