Fall 2010 Board Meeting Highlights
On November 15 and 16, 2010, JINSA hosted an impressive list of speakers for its Fall Board Meeting beginning with a keynote speech by the Deputy Commander of the United States Special Operations Command, Lieutenant General David P. Fridovich, USA. Gen. Fridovich discussed global challenges, both military and civilian, facing the United States and his Command’s worldwide role in ameliorating them.
On November 15 and 16, 2010, JINSA hosted an impressive list of speakers for its Fall Board Meeting beginning with a keynote speech by the Deputy Commander of the United States Special Operations Command, Lieutenant General David P. Fridovich, USA. Gen. Fridovich discussed global challenges, both military and civilian, facing the United States and his Command’s worldwide role in ameliorating them.
The JINSA Board of Directors next heard a panel on Radical Islam and Moderate Muslims. The panel included Ms. Raheel Raza, a Muslim Canadian journalist and lecturer on Islamic issues. She is the author of the book, Their Jihad…Not my Jihad (Basileia Books, 2005), in which she explained how Muslim fundamentalists distort the teaching of the Muslim faith. Joining her on the panel was Dr. Tawfik Hamid, a former Islamic extremist from Egypt who, 25 years ago, recognized the threat of radical Islam and the need for a reformation based on modern and peaceful interpretations of classical Islamic texts. He is currently a Senior Fellow and Chair for the Study of Islamic Radicalism at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.
The Board Meeting continued with a briefing on Turkey by Dr. Soner Cagapty, Director of the Turkish Research Program at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
The following day, Dr. James S. Robbins, Senior Editorial Writer for foreign affairs at the Washington Times and Senior Fellow in National Security at the American Foreign Policy Council, spoke on the employment of targeted killings as they relate to counter-terrorism. Mark Dubowitz, Executive Director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, next spoke about what economic warfare can do to help forestall the need for a military option toward Iran’s nuclear weapons development program.
The Wall Street Journal’s Bret Stephens followed with a presentation entitled “What Happens When ‘Chaosistan’ West Meets ‘Chaosistan East.’” Stephens, a deputy editorial page editor and columnist at The Journal, was formerly the editor-in-chief at The Jerusalem Post.
The Board Meeting concluded with a keynote address by Jonathan Peled, Minister-Counselor and Spokesperson for the Embassy of Israel. He discussed the global campaign to delegitimize Israel and steps being taken to counter it.
