One long-serving soldier is finally getting a good night’s sleep thanks to a retired general, a local bed store, and a Jewish charity.

Staff Sgt. Tom Kretz Jr. is still on active duty in Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, but he recently moved from the 97th Civil Affairs to the Warrior Transition Brigade.

Kretz bears the marks of battle and training others for battle all over his body. He cannot sleep in a regular bed, because peripheral neuropathy requires that parts of his body remain in elevated positions.

Chris Davis, of Comfort Studio, introduced Kretz to his new bed, a Tempur-pedic King Cloud Supreme model Davis helped provide, with assistance from the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) and retired Maj. Gen Sid Shachnow.
