SAN DIEGO (NNS) — Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Command hosted more than 20 members of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) during a community relations visit, April 1.
The purpose of the visit was to educate leaders from diverse backgrounds on the mission, methods and equipment of NSW.

SAN DIEGO (NNS) — Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Command hosted more than 20 members of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) during a community relations visit, April 1.
The purpose of the visit was to educate leaders from diverse backgrounds on the mission, methods and equipment of NSW.
The day began with JINSA members receiving several briefs by NSW leadership, including Rear Adm. Gary Bonelli, deputy commander, Naval Special Warfare Command; who thanked the organization for its support in the past and provided a brief overview of the NSW organization and its importance at a time when the U.S. is still being targeted by terror organizations around the world.
“When you look across the spectrum and ask why we do the things we do, the United States of America has been the big boy on the block for quite some time,” said Bonelli. “Whether you agree with American policies or not, there are some people who are violent in their views and would like nothing more than to strike us. I am a realist and believe that it is not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’ we will be hit again.”
Bonelli said the NSW force is fortunate that enlistments within the SEAL and SWCC community have remained at 78 percent, even though the U.S. has been at war for 10 years.
“I thought today was amazing,” said Benjamin Brisi, JINSA consultant. “It’s a privilege to be here today and be able to see Special Forces training, and thank service members for their service to our country.”
For the past seven years, JINSA’s Holiday Appeal on behalf of “Deserving Soldiers” and their families has generated more than half a million dollars for a Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day campaign. These funds are used to ensure military families have what they need to fully participate in the holidays. In addition, a portion of the funds raised during the appeal go to young service members with catastrophic injuries.
