Despite the importance of their work, our brave men and women in uniform perform their duty in relative anonymity. Today we honor those heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and those who are thankfully still with us. We also honor America’s military families enduring the absence of their loved ones away from home for extended periods of time, as well as those whose loved ones did not return home safely.
