About the Gemunder Center

JINSA is seeking a Policy Analyst for the organization’s Gemunder Center for Defense and Strategy. Since its inception in 1976, JINSA’s mandate has been to provide leadership on critical national security issues, promote U.S. security cooperation with Israel and other vital allies, engage the U.S. defense community on Israel’s role in regional security and improve awareness of the importance of a strong U.S. defense capability. The Gemunder Center was founded in 2012 to perform innovate policy research and advocacy on a range of vital U.S. defense, strategic and general national security issues.

The Gemunder Center conducts its research and advocacy under the auspices of interdisciplinary policy projects consisting of retired senior military officers, former senior government officials, national security experts and business leaders.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Policy Analyst will report to the Gemunder Center’s Director of Foreign Policy, and will be directly involved in all aspects of the Center’s work. Primary duties consist of independent and collaborative research and writing to produce regular reports for each policy project, as well as contributing regularly to other written materials as needed. Additional duties include preparing regular meetings for each Task Force, participating in briefings for Congress and the Executive Branch, and assisting with grant writing and public events.

This position will require the ability to research complicated topics, write clearly, work hard and learn quickly on the job, in order to handle simultaneously a wide range of tasks spanning different topics. The Senior Policy Analyst must possess very strong research and writing skills to contribute substantively to all Gemunder Center policy projects. The position also requires well-developed interpersonal skills, both to function in a tight-knit office environment and to interact and engage directly with top policymakers and other leaders in the national security field.


  • Strong research, analytical and writing skills;
  • Background in U.S. national security and defense issues, with proficiency Middle East issues and languages a plus;
  • Proven ability to multi-task on diverse projects;
  • Excellent communication abilities, including interpersonal and public-speaking skills;
  • Requirements:
    • At least an undergraduate degree in a relevant field;
    • One to two years’ experience or graduate degree preferred.
