2021 Letter to the UNSC Reversing Snapback

On February 18, 2021, the United States withdrew its previous communications to the UN Security Council that had asserted that it had snapped back UN sanctions against Iran pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 2231. That day, two Senior State Department Officials briefed State Department reporters that they had taken this action to “strengthen our ability to work with allies and partners in the UN Security Council to address Iran’s nuclear program and other destabilizing activities.”
