Lt Gen Michael C. Gould, USAF (ret.)

Lt. Gen. Michael C. Gould served as the 18th Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., from June 2009 to June 2013. He retired from the United States Air Force in July 2013.

Lt. Gen. Gould earned his commission and a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1976. He commanded an operations group, an air refueling wing, an air mobility wing and the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center. He also commanded the 3rd Air Force, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, and the 2nd Air Force, Keesler AFB, Miss. His operational and staff assignments included three tours at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, along with duty as the Air Force aide to the President and senior military assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force. He served as the Director of Mobility Forces for Operation Joint Endeavor and as USEUCOM’s Air Expeditionary Task Force commander for the deployment of African Union troops into the Darfur region of Sudan. Prior to becoming the Air Force Academy Superintendent, he was Director of Operations and Plans, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

A command pilot, Lt. Gen. Gould has flown more than 3,200 hours in a variety of aircraft.

Lt. Gen. Gould holds a M.A. in Human Resource Development from Webster University, and has completed graduate courses at the Air Command and Staff College, the National War College, the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Gen. Gould is currently the President of The Gould Group, LLC, an independent consulting firm located in Colorado Springs. He serves on numerous boards including the El Pomar Foundation, Discover Goodwill of Colorado, The Liberty Institute, Children’s Hospital of Colorado, The Medal of Honor Bowl, The Scott Hall Field of Dreams Foundation and the Falcon Foundation. In addition, he serves as a member of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.
