Job Description

The Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA), a non-profit, non-partisan policy organization focused on strengthening U.S. national security and the U.S.-Israel security relationship, is seeking a Research Associate to work directly with Senior Fellow John Hannah on research and writing projects related to foreign and defense policy issues critical to U.S. national interests in the Middle East. Hannah previously worked in senior national security positions at both the White House and State Department in three U.S. administrations. The position would require an ability to work alongside Hannah from JINSA’s office in Washington, D.C.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Research Associate’s primary duties will consist of working closely with Senior Fellow John Hannah on research and writing projects, as well supporting JINSA’s regular production of memos, op-eds, and reports. The work with Hannah will ideally provide important opportunities for publishing and bolstering the Research Associate’s profile and credentials in the Washington national security community.  There will also be opportunities to interact and co-author written products with members of JINSA’s large network of affiliate contributors, which includes retired senior American military officers. Research will include a variety of topics relevant to JINSA’s focus on the Middle East. The Research Associate should be knowledgeable about and willing to research all matters relevant to the advancement of U.S. national security in the Middle East, including the U.S.-Israel security relationship, the Iranian threat, and the Abraham Accords and associated U.S. regional peacemaking efforts.

This position will require the Research Associate to work in close collaboration with Senior Fellow John Hannah and under his guidance. The Research Associate will be expected to research complex and evolving topics, write clearly, and willingly receive and incorporate feedback on their work product. The Research Associate must possess strong research and writing skills and an ability to contribute substantively to projects directed at the policymaking community. The position also requires well-developed interpersonal skills, both to function in a tight-knit office environment and to interact and engage directly with top policymakers and other leaders in the national security field.

Qualifications

      • Undergraduate or graduate degree.
      • 3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred.
      • Superb research, analytical, and writing skills;
      • Exceptional qualitative research skills required. Quantitative skills a plus;
      • Background in U.S. national security and defense issues;
      • Proficiency in Middle East issues and languages skills a plus;
      • Proven ability to multitask on a wide range of projects;
      • Excellent interpersonal communication abilities;
