JINSA National Leadership Webinar:
Armed and Desperate: Iranian Proxies in Iraq
After October 10 elections resulted in Iranian-backed militias losing two-thirds of their seats in Iraq’s parliament, Iran’s proxies have grown increasingly aggressive in their efforts to preserve their power and influence. While attacking U.S. military and diplomatic personnel across Iraq has long been a staple of their playbook, over the past month the militias have increasingly directed their campaign of intimidation and violence against the Iraqi state itself, culminating over the weekend in sending mobs of supporters to storm Baghdad’s Green Zone and an assassination attempt against Iraq’s prime minister using multiple armed drones.
Join JINSA for a discussion with JINSA Senior Fellow John Hannah and AEI Distinguished Senior Fellow Danielle Pletka about Iran’s armed meddling in Iraq and the implications for Iraq’s precarious politics, the region, and U.S. interests.
This webinar will be moderated by JINSA Vice President of Policy Blaise Misztal.
