On July 7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu landed in Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump following the historic U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June. During the visit, Netanyahu’s third trip to Washington since Trump took office in January, the two leaders are reported to have discussed the potential ceasefire deal that would secure the release of more Israeli hostages as the Gaza war enters its 21st month, as well as next steps for ensuring Iran does not reconstitute its nuclear program.

On July 1, Trump advised Hamas to accept the U.S.- and Israeli-backed 60-day ceasefire deal, warning that “it will only get worse” for the group if it refuses to cooperate. A week later, as reports circulated that Hamas had made “unacceptable” changes to the ceasefire proposal, Netanyahu reiterated his refusal to sign a deal that would permit Hamas to remain in power in Gaza. With Israel and the United States pondering a ceasefire in Gaza, the two leaders will also need to plan for Iran’s future, a topic JINSA addresses in its new report, Not Over: Ensuring Iran Does Not Rebuild.

JINSA hosted an exclusive conversation regarding Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, the potential ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, and the two countries’ next moves on Iran with JINSA Distinguished Fellow IDF MG (ret.) Yaakov Amidror and JINSA Randi & Charles Wax Senior Fellow John Hannah.

The discussion was moderated by JINSA President & CEO Michael Makovsky, PhD.
