V. Adm. Maguire Addresses Dinner Honoring Jeff Love with 2008 Houston Leadership Award

A record-breaking crowd of more than 750 guests gathered on April 10 to honor leading Houstonian Jeff Love with JINSA’s Houston Leadership Award. Vice Admiral Joseph Maguire, USN, Deputy Director for Strategic Operational Planning at the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) presented the keynote address. Prior to his current position at the NCTC, Adm. Maguire, a Navy SEAL, served as commander of Naval Special Warfare.


A record-breaking crowd of more than 750 guests gathered on April 10 to honor leading Houstonian Jeff Love with JINSA’s Houston Leadership Award. Vice Admiral Joseph Maguire, USN, Deputy Director for Strategic Operational Planning at the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) presented the keynote address. Prior to his current position at the NCTC, Adm. Maguire, a Navy SEAL, served as commander of Naval Special Warfare.

During his presentation, Adm. Maguire commented on the critical role the NTCT plays today in ensuring the security for American citizens. He updated the audience on the gravity of the threats our country is facing.

Admiral Maguire also spoke of the burden shouldered by our troops on behalf of our security and urged that there be active support by the American citizenry for the men and women in the U.S. military. He commented that they have undertaken the responsibility of doing the fighting and the dying on our behalf. In response, he said, the rest of us can do no less than to ensure their well-being and the well-being of their families.

Mr. Love, a native Houstonian, is chairman of the Houston office of Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP, a 725-lawyer firm with offices in 11 cities in the United States and one in London. He joined the firm as its 24th attorney in 1976.

Mr. Love has been very active in civic and charitable undertakings including service on the Boards of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Hermann Healthcare Foundation; University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center, the Mental Health Association of Greater Houston and is a National Trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Mr. Love is the 16th recipient of the Houston Leadership Award presented annually.
